Sample Planning Sheet Answers:
1. What charity would you like to plan a fundraising event for? Why did you choose this charity?
For this project, I am excited to create a fundraising event for the Casa de Amor Children’s home for abandoned or orphaned children in Cochabamba, Bolivia. I chose this charity because I think it is important to help children (no matter where they live) have happy and healthy lives. By helping this orphanage, I have the chance to put clean clothes on the backs of less fortunate children.
2. Before you begin, it is important to know a little background information about your charity. What is the goal of this charity? How does it make our world a better place? What other details do you know about your charity that could be helpful?
Providing shelter, housing, security, and education to children are the goals of this charity. Clearly, this shelter is improving the lives of many children in Bolivia. I researched that the shelter could use clothes, blankets, or toys for the children.
3. Now, think about how your event will be a fundraiser for this charity. Keep in mind the charity’s goals. A fundraiser should in some way help the charity reach these goals. Raising money for your charity is a popular fundraising choice, but it is not the only one.
How will your event become a fundraiser? What will it look like at your event? Brainstorm any other details about your fundraising plan here, as well.
I found my idea for my fundraiser at CraftHope.com- a website dedicated to creating and collecting crafts to help others. For my fundraiser, I will be organizing an afternoon crafting event, where all 105 fifth graders will be invited to stay afterschool to sew pillowcase dresses to donate to Casa de Amor. This will help create vital clothing for many of the girls at the shelter.
In order to persuade my classmates to stay afterschool with me (which would mean more dresses!) I have brainstormed a few ideas. First, I have come up with a fun theme which I will discuss below. Next, food and entertainment will be provided to keep the helpful kids going. Lastly, every kid loves prizes, so I will have a raffle at the end of the event. Hopefully these ideas will persuade lots of kids to come so that I can help out Casa de Amor.
4. Your event should also follow a specific theme. This could be influenced by the charity goals or fundraiser type. You will follow this theme throughout the project when selecting food, entertainment, paper products, etc. What will be the theme of your event?
Keeping with the “pillowcase” idea, my event’s theme will be a pajama party! I will encourage the students to wear their pajamas to school that day and to bring sleeping bags. Also, I am hoping to reserve the library as the location for the event so that way we can be comfy cozy during our “PJ party” as we sew dresses for a good cause.

Sample Accounting Sheets:
Please note: this shows the start of the sample project’s research. The research is not complete.
Sample Documentation:
Below is the documentation for the prices of each item I recorded above in my accounting sheets. There are several different ways you can collect this documentation as you research:
1. Print out online shopping carts:
If you are researching with an online shopping website, simply click “Add to cart” when viewing any object you would like to use for the project. Once you are done with that website, click “check out” or “view shopping cart.” This will show all the items you have selected, along with their price- perfect documentation! No need to buy the items, just print out this page. Here are my shopping cart print-outs for walmart.com, partyoptions.net & joann.com:

2. If you are using store fliers when researching, simply cut out the items that you used. Glue these neatly to blank paper.
3. Another way to collect prices for food items is to browse restaurant menus. I used a Subway menu to find and record the price of my sandwiches.
4. These are not the only methods of collecting data. Students also visit actual stores and take pictures of the items and prices, or turn in receipts of purchased items. Just make sure all your documentation is neatly organized and clearly labeled when turning it in.
